Domain Names

Your web efforts start
with a great domain name

Your domain name is your address on the world wide web. We’ll help you find a new one or use your current domain.

domain name is an identifier that defines every website on the planet. Domain names are formed by the rules and procedures of the Domain Name System (DNS), any name registered in the DNS is a domain name.

Domain names are used in various networking contexts and for application-specific naming and addressing purposes. In general, a domain name represents an Internet Protocol (IP) resource, such as a personal computer used to access the Internet, a server computer hosting a web site, or the web site itself or any other service communicated via the Internet.

There are more than 350 million domains registered worldwide, which equates to one domain name for every 22 people on Earth! With so many domains being registered, it’s no wonder the domain name industry is estimated to be worth around $6.7 billion in the US alone.

The registration of these domain names are usually administered by domain name registrars who sell their services to the public.  Domains require yearly renewal, though you can pay for more than one year at a time.

ICANN’s mission is to help ensure a stable, secure, and unified global Internet. To reach another person on the Internet, you need to type an address – a name or a number – into your computer or other device. That address must be unique so computers know where to find each other.

ICANN helps coordinate and support these unique identifiers across the world. ICANN was formed in 1998 as a nonprofit public benefit corporation with a community of participants from all over the world.
