What’s a Privacy Policy?
The Privacy Policy is an important page on your website that lists legal notes, disclaimers, and talks about what information your gather from visitors and users, and how you use that data.
The General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) is a regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy in the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA). It also addresses the transfer of personal data outside the EU and EEA areas.
As a result of this law, your website should provide legal statements and disclosures that show how your website gathers and uses information, so users are aware, and can take action to protect their privacy.
If you site doesn’t have a privacy policy, you could be opening yourselves up to legal issues. Creating them in WordPress is a simple task. Corporate clients should discuss these with their counsel.
Is your site friendly to users who might be sight impaired? Click here for information on accessibility. We recommend adding legal lines and ADA Compliance statements into your privacy policy.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Security Logs
The IP address of visitors, user ID of logged in users, and username of login attempts are conditionally logged to check for malicious activity and to protect the site from specific kinds of attacks. Examples of conditions when logging occurs include login attempts, log out requests, requests for suspicious URLs, changes to site content, and password updates. This information is retained for 30 days.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
For the most part, we turn off comments, as they are a source for spam and often represent vulnerabilities in the WordPress platform.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
For the most part, we turn off the ability for any outside party to upload anything to our site(s).
Contact forms
We use the Contact Form 7 plugin to manage contact form submissions. The information is sent as email messages that only a select few are allowed to access. The information is also stored in the database on our hosting server for backup and later reference purposes.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

We store user input data sent through the contact forms on this website, along with meta information about the submissions, including the time stamp, the origin IP address, and the user agent (browser). Also, third party services may collect information about website visitors. We use Google Analytics and Search Console on this website.

ADA Compliance
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
We make every effort to ensure our sites are available and usable. To that end, we pursue industry best practices, and make every effort to comply with guidelines set forth.
The WCAG was established by the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), The WCAG 2.0 (published 12/11/2008) supercede and are recommended over WCAG 1.0 (released 5/05/1999).
WCAG 2.0 has 12 guidelines that are organized under 4 design principles of web accessibility: perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust. Each principle has guidelines, and for each guideline, there are testable success criteria at three levels: A, AA, and AAA. The basis for determining conformance to the WCAG 2.0 are the success criteria. For a short summary of the WCAG 2.0 guidelines, see WCAG 2.0 at a Glance.
WCAG 1.0 is organized around guidelines that have three checkpoints: priority 1 (must), 2 (should), or 3 (may) and address 2 major themes of accessible web design: ensuring graceful transformation and making understandable, navigable content. The basis for determining conformance to the WCAG 1.0 are the checkpoints. For information on the comparison and transition to 2.0, see How WCAG 2.0 Differs from WCAG 1.0.

We are committed to making our website accessible to all users, including those with disabilities. Our goal is to provide an accessible website that conforms to Section 508 Guidelines and the World Wide Web Consortium’s Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Level AA.
Some existing content may not be in compliance, and some content may meet only the minimum required compliance standards. This will be resolved we update their existing websites and continue efforts to monitor and maintain acceptable compliance levels. While every effort will be made, it is understood that creating accessible formats for some documentation and graphical renderings maintained by us may be technologically unfeasible, impractical, or creates an undue hardship to our operations.
We continue to make every effort to test the website and to remove barriers that prevent persons with disabilities from interacting with or accessing information made available on our website. If we become aware of content that does not conform to the WCAG 2.0 Level AA standards, we will make reasonable good faith efforts to make the content conform to the standards. We cannot control or correct problems with these third-party sites, but please let us know if you encounter difficulty with the sites we link to so we can pass the information along to the owners of those websites. You may also want to address your concerns directly to these third parties.
While this policy does provide the standard for individuals with disabilities to access Web-based information, this policy cannot anticipate every accessibility need, due to known limitations of existing technology. There may be other circumstances, independent of technology that may limit the accessibility of The Center’s websites.
While we strive to adhere to the accepted guidelines and standards for accessibility and usability, it is not always possible to do so in all areas of the website, particularly as it relates to content by third parties. We are not responsible for ensuring that third-party content, software/tools, widgets, Add-ins, Plugins, APIs, etc., which are not owned by us, but are otherwise located on or linked to our websites, conform to WCAG 2.0 Level AA, and shall not be liable if they are inaccessible to individuals with disabilities.
